Gifted Education
Wright Middle School Gifted Magnet opened in 2019, and it is an extension of Wright’s Engineering & Design S.T.E.A.M. theme-focused magnet program. We have become a desired gifted option for the local community. Each seat is filled with a student identified as gifted or verified. Wright Gifted Magnet partners with our host school Wright Engineering & Design (STEAM) Magnet for theme integration, enrichment options, intervention options, and physical education classes.
Wright Gifted Magnet implements depth, complexity, novelty, and acceleration across all grade levels and in the core disciplines. Each academic teacher holds a single-subject credential in their content area, which allows for deeper study and/or acceleration for their students. The 4 core teachers loop with their students for all 3 years. This allows teachers to begin and differentiate instruction much more quickly. By the time students reach the middle of the first semester of 6th grade, the Gifted Magnet teachers are aware of students’ areas of strength, interest, and improvement.
All core teachers use collaborative groups and Project Based Learning (PBL) to address 21st Century Skills such as communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration and to implement depth, complexity, and novelty. Wright Gifted students are in an Accelerated Math Pathway, so when they culminate, they are ready for Algebra 2 or Geometry. Our culminating students are ready for advanced placement in high school and beyond.
